The Transparent Butterfly

Butterflies are amazing. They can carry up to fifty times their body weight and fly up to twelve miles per hour. Did you know that their exoskeletons keep the moisture in their bodies and that they can only see red, green, and yellow?

There are over twenty-four thousand species of butterflies. Out of these many types, I chose the Glasswing Butterfly. Glasswing Butterflies, or Greta Oto, are in the family Nymphlidae. The tissue in between their wings lack color, so they look like like tiny, breakable little creatures. Despite their appearance, they are actually quite strong. They can carry fifty times their body weight, which is the equivalent of a human carrying two heavy cars filled with people. They can live anywhere from Mexico to Panama. The Glasswing's name in Spanish means “little mirrors”. Their wings have a brownish-red border and are twenty-eight to thirty millimeters from wingtip to wingtip.

The Glasswing Butterfly is a unique and intriguing creature.

I'm really proud of you for doing this... I think this is my favorite science report you've done so far this year, too!
